Denise was over the top wonderful! very honest and very helpful, i really appreciate the time she took to explain Arthur's Self Storage - Access Self Storage. She explained all the rates of the units i was looking into and referred to their other location in Plainfield, because they had a little more availability than the Green Brook location. This place was a little bit hard to find since it was behind the stores, but very clean and spacious inside. Will recommend if anyone lives around the area and needs a family oriented storage unit.

Stopped in to check out the units at this location and was completely sold after talking to the manager Denise. She was extremely helpful, kind, and explained everything clearly. The facility was very clean and cameras were visible at multiple locations. So far I'm extremely pleased with the service received and am looking forward to using this space.

Unfortunately, an otherwise pleasant exchange was completely marred by the actions of one bad apple. When I arrived in the morning for my pre-arranged appointment for self check in of a U-Haul van, the keys were not available to access. I called the help line, & they were very gracious, offered an extra credit for my inconvenience, & said I could wait until 10 am (2 hours later) when the facility opened or I could go somewhere else. I decided just to wait until 10 & extended my rental time by 4 hours (from 8-12 to 10-6). When I returned & checked in, the woman working at the desk (Pam) was gracious & courteous. She asked me if 6 PM would be long enough for me. I said I thought so, but I wasn’t sure since I had work that day. She responded “Okay, well, we close at 7, so if you get back later, we have a drop box, & we don’t charge a return after hours fee because of the drop box.” I said okay, great, thank you so much. Come 5:30, I’m loading my last piece of furniture into the van (not far from my new place nor the facility) & I get a frantic voicemail from Denise from Arthur’s Storage saying that my appointment was ending at 6, that she hoped I was on my way back by then because she needed the van at exactly 6 to prepare for an overnight pickup. I called her back & this was the exchange: Me: Hi, I’m sorry. Your colleagues made it seem this morning like the 6 return time wasn’t concrete & I had some leeway. Denise: Well, actually no, U-Haul closes at 5, so you don’t have that extra time & I really need you to be back by 6 to arrange an overnight pickup Me: I see, well I’m really sorry ma’am. That was not communicated to me as such & it’s 5:40 right now. I have to move my mattress out of the van into my home, so I’ll likely be back around 6:30. I hope that works for you, but like I said, this wasn’t communicated to me this morning. Denise: Well it really doesn’t work for me, no, because I have to arrange an overnight pickup for one of my tenants & I need your keys for that & I’d really like to get home *at some point tonight* Me: okay, ma’am, I’m very sorry for the confusion. I appreciate that this if frustrating, but like I said, I will be back to you by 6:30 the latest, & I will call you on the way back. Denise proceeded to list the ways that this inconvenienced her, I apologized again (though she was talking over me) & hung up. By 5:59, I was on my way back to the storage facility, called Denise, & told her I was on my way back to the facility. Me: Hi Denise, this is Nicolette, I’m on my way back now. Denise You need to make sure you fill it up with gas Me: ah yes, well I’ve used almost no gas today and the needle is still on F & she cut me off. Denise: Well this is what you agreed to & the next person will very quickly see how much gas you *didnt use*. Me: Oookay, Denise. I’ll see you soon. Denise: & bring a receipt. *click* This woman literally hung up on me [a customer]. I arrived back at the storage facility at 6:20 after putting $5.54 of gas in the car. I was not told where to park it when I returned so I pulled into the wrong spot. Denise: You can’t park here. You need to move the van. Behind the blue truck over there. okay, cool no problem. After that, there was barely an exchange, Denise told me I was fine to leave & did not ask for a receipt. I’ve worked in service & other public facing jobs for 10+ years. I understand that things get mixed up, & it’s frustrating when you didn’t expect something to go wrong. That being said, the way that Denise spoke to me that day was wholly unacceptable. She was rude, spoke over me, & made my move more stressful than it needed to be. Considering how polite & accommodating I was trying to be on the phone, & considering that my own appointment had obviously *not* been a priority the very night before, I do not understand how exactly this woman felt it appropriate to scold me like a child, act as if this was all my fault, & proceed to hang up on me over what I thought was a misunderstanding. I recently rented a 9' Uhaul van from the Green Brook, NJ location at the Arthurs Storage facility. On Monday 4/19 I was able to go to the facility and speak with one of the employees, Pam and take care of the reservation, I returned the van later that evening and left the key in the drop box. I returned to the same facility the following Thursday 4/22 to rent the same van again to continue my move. I spoke again with Pam who was very courteous and helpful and explained that if I was unable to return the van the next day (Friday 4/23) within the 24 hours then I would likely be charged an extra $20 for another day. I understood the procedure for drop off and proceeded to complete the application. I called again later to verify with another employee (Denise) who again explained that it would be an extra charge of $20 if the van was kept later. Needless to say my move took longer than expected and we decided to keep the van thinking that it was worth the extra $20. I called this morning (Saturday 4/24) to explain that the van was still in my possession and that I would be dropping it off later today. The same employee whom I spoke with yesterday afternoon (Denise) answered the phone and was extremely rude and began screaming over the phone about the fact that she needed the van there this morning. She insisted that she did explain this to me the day before on the phone and that I would be charged an 'inconvenience fee' of at least $100. I spoke at length with both Pam and Denise prior to renting the van on both days and at neither time was I told about the '$100 inconvenience fee'. For the first rental on Monday 4/19, dealing with Pam was a pleasure as she was very polite and answered all of my questions, she even welcomed me back as a return customer when I came to the office again on Thursday. It's highly upsetting that on the contrary, Denise was extremely rude and disrespectful as she spoke over me and would not allow me to convey my apologies due to what I deemed as a simple misunderstanding. Instead she screamed over me insisting that she did specify that the van needed to be back by 8:30 am and that now I would be charged an inconvenience fee. As I'm sure you are aware, moving is stressful enough and I personally would prefer to perhaps pay a bit more to be treated with dignity and receive decent customer service rather than trying to save a few dollars. I understand that Uhaul is a large corporation and it certainly is convenient but I am highly disappointed in the manner by which I was treated today. Regardless if I am wrong, if I were rude (which I was not), I am still the customer and should be treated with kindness and courtesy! I understand that I may be charged $100 late or inconvenience fee, I know that I do not have much say over that but I can control where I spend my money. I realize that it is highly possible that nothing will be done about this but I will be writing a review and letting others know about my unfortunate experience.

We only used Arthur's for Uhaul service, not storage. The lady on the phone was very sweet the day prior in giving us directions to the place. I would advise against using self check-in with Uhaul. I arrived 15 minutes early at her advice so they would not give my truck away. We did not get through approval with online check-in until after our appointed time. We tried to go inside for help at our appointed time, exactly when they opened, but the opening employee left and put up a sign up that they would return in 25 minutes. Then the Uhaul's steering wheel was locked and would not turn on. I tried to call the local number the woman called from. Turns out it's Arthur's corporate and she could only leave a message for them to call back. They never did. Never. I finally got it started, but fought all day every time I had to turn it off to restart it. I spent more time researching the problem then moving. I ended up needing to use my small, personal vehicles to move most of my belongings and rush to move most of my big furniture. My husband called to explain this to them and they just told us to wiggle the key. We told them we did that and many other things and they told us that was the only thing they could think of.
